Pre-Order Update: February 2025

Pre-Order Update: February 2025

This update, directly from founder, Jean Simonet, has been adapted from the communication shared with our Kickstarter Backers and contains transparent, detailed information about Pixels production. Some details have been adjusted to focus on Pre-order info vs Backer Rewards. These updates are published at the end of each month and will continue to be re-published on the Pixels Blog with information relevant to Pre-order customers.

This month's update will be short, but we still have progress to share, so let’s dive in!

📦 Shipping Progress

We approved another 1,200 orders this week. Some will continue to receive shipping notifications into next week.

This batch includes singles and accessories—including Hematite Grey and Onyx Black!

More good news: we finally received the required battery certification for the set's large charging cases. This means the first batch of sets is ready to move to our fulfillment center.

We anticipate a steady flow of batch shipments over the next three months, covering singles, sets, and accessories.

We are nearing the tipping point where more backers and pre-order customers have at least some dice in hand than not, but we're continuing to work through ways to wrap up delivery more quickly. We haven't forgotten our suggested solution of allowing Backers to switch to easier colorways and we hope to have more info on that next month.

🏭 Production Update

Even though we are considering giving you the option to switch, it does not mean that we are abandoning work on fixing the Hematite and Onyx colorways. Our tests of the new molds (or should I say: 'new_final_for_real_rev2_use-this-one') seem to confirm my expectations from last update.
Some Hematite Samples used to verify the numbers lighting intensity (and therefore the underlying LED position). Note: the numbers have not been filled with the white UV resin yet, which is why unlit numbers look grey, they are in fact transparent white.

And the improvements for D00 and D6 that I teased last month (more LEDs!) also seem to be working, although to be honest I haven't spent a ton of time on those beyond verifying the circuit boards since we have a ton of existing board and cores to finish and use.
Assembled cores for the D00 (with 2 leds per face) and the 2 variants of the D6. Although we'll do more quantitative tests, it will surprise no-one that the model with 4 leds per face looks way cooler! I think it'll be much more versatile for future designs.

I'm hoping to share more progress on both these topics next update.

📱 App Updates

Some more forward motion on the Pixels app: we just published a new version with roll formulas!

Screenshots of the Pixels App new feature: roll formulas, found in the "dice roller" tab

You can now perform multi-die rolls in the Dice Roller and apply a number of modifiers to your rolls. This first version focuses on the basics, allowing you to setup simple formulas easily and edit them or make corrections to your rolls afterwards. We made the decision to cover basic D&D rolls first, but that's only because we wanted to start somewhere and begin getting your feedback. Here is a short list of what we plan to implement next:

  • Arbitrary formulas: Just write the formula using the roll20 syntax.

  • Storing/organizing formulas: While we don't want to create a full-fledged character sheet in this app, we do want to give you a way to input and manage all the formulas you might need for a given character.

  • Multi-die lighting patterns (multi-die-profiles): We want you to be able to control how each die lights up as a result of the overall roll. For instance, if rolling a D20 at advantage, maybe you only want the highest die to light up.
Please don't hesitate to give us your thoughts, either on our forums or on discord.

🌐 Website & Reviews

You may have noticed some updates to the website. The new site is 10x faster (literally), making order management and tracking much smoother, on our end, and yours. We’ll continue refining the experience, including building out a more robust knowledge base with information on first-party and third-party integrations, partnerships, and tips and tricks.

We also have a new Reviews page. I know this may be bittersweet for those who are still waiting on their dice, but our hope is that seeing real feedback from fellow backers who have received their orders will be helpful—and reassuring—to those still waiting.

Until now, the main places to share experiences have been Kickstarter comments and our support desk—where, understandably, we hear most from those still waiting. The Reviews page now gives backers who have their dice in hand a place to share their thoughts, and we hope it helps paint an authentic picture of what to expect.

A note on leaving reviews: the system requires your dice to be delivered before you can leave a “verified” review. And of course, if anything about your dice is unsatisfactory, please reach out to our support desk at support@gamewithpixels.com. Engineering and manufacturing took this long to ensure a high-quality product (not a “version 1” like many Kickstarters), so if something isn’t right, we want to hear from you directly so we can make it right.

 Support Desk Response Times

Every time we ship a big batch, support inquiries increase. We completely understand—people have questions, address changes, and general concerns. We’re doing our best to keep up.

🚀 Looking Ahead

The most important thing is that more shipments are going out, more orders are getting fulfilled, and the light at the end of the tunnel, on this long journey,  gets brighter every month.

I can't thank you for sticking with us on this enough. We look forward to more backers receiving their shipping notifications in waves over the coming weeks, and we especially can’t wait to hear your feedback on the full sets!

That’s all for now—short update for the shortest month. More soon!

Warm regards,
Jean Simonet
