We call it the maker's mark. During manufacturing the die electronics are wrapped around a plastic core. Then the core is placed in a mold inside a cavity into which resin is poured. To keep the core perfectly centered inside the mold cavity, there is a registration leg that attached to the core on one end and maintained in place by the mold on the other end.
Once the die has been cast, this registration leg is cut and the die is polished. The maker's mark on the lower face is the section of that registration leg.
